• Two related questions:
    1. If a reader leaves a comment at the end of any of my blog posts, they can click a button “Notify me of new posts by email”. But then where do those subscribers go?! Some friends have tested this out for me, and they say they never get a confirmation email, and never get future emails about my blog posts. Is this not working?

    2. When I log into wordpress.com there is a menu item “People” and it shows me a list of “email followers” – where do these people come from? How have they signed up?!

I thought (1) and (2) were the same – BUT I’ve had friends try to subscribe to my blog in the comments section, but they never appear in the WordPress “People” list.

Thanks for any help you can provide,
    – Mary

  • Your website mentioned in the link is hosted at Bluehost…

Whatever website you have at WordPress dot com is not connected to your Bluehost WordPress site except maybe through JetPack if you have that.

I’m not sure what the ‘People’ feature there is as I’ve never looked at that feature.

You might try asking Bluehost about your email problem on your own website but I’m not sure that is broken. I did leave a test comment which you should probably delete ASAP!

    Hi there,
Yes my site is hosted by Bluehost, BUT it is also at wordpress dot com. I only have one website, and when I’m at wordpress.com it shows my website as the same URL.

I see the mysterious subscribers when I go to this link:
    https://wordpress.com/people/email-followers/www.monkeysontheroad.com

But I cannot figure out where/how they are signing up?!

And most importantly, when someone leaves a comment (as you did) and they check the radio box for “notify me of future posts” – they seem to disappear into nothing. Where do those signups go?
