    Hi

Is it possible to use the E-mail Address the user enters as from address? This would make it easier to reply.

    Regards
    Raphael

  • Hi Raphael, that sounds like a good idea, but email services like Google, Hotmail, Yahoo, et al are real sticklers when it comes to the “From” address. So it’s not an option at this time, because it is better to use an address that matches the “To” address (there are settings for this). I.e., when sending email from your domain, it is best to have the “To” and “From” addresses match up; otherwise it looks suspicious when user@example.com is sending directly from yoursite.com. I hope that makes sense!

    Hi Jeff

Thanks for the quick response. I do understand your point and yes it’s very well possible that those e-mails go into spam, but since the to address remains the same and is most likely one that you own, it’s easy to make a filter to ensure messages from the form never go to spam. … replying is then very easy.

Or a spontanious idea: use the “In-Reply-To” header.

Yes fair point, but how many users are going to set up a custom filter to account for it? In my experience, the less demand a plugin places on users the better. Still, I like your thinking and will look into something for the next plugin update. Thanks for the feedback.

    Hi Jeff

Thanks. I think with the reply-to header Spam shouldn’t be an issue. I’ll gladly help testing or something else, let me know.

Actually 3rd-party services have extremely strict rules regarding reply-to and from headers (and other headers, incidentally). Even the slightest “incorrect” header will send the email straight to the spam bin, or even blocked entirely.
