Support » Requests and Feedback » Friendly but serious rant, for heaven's sake, we need a new Search engine !

  • Hello,

I’m confronted with several problems following my move of my blogs to a dedicated server, and that allowed me to find yet another reason to complain against the search engine currently used by WordPress for its support forums. This time, it’s too much, I do a – friendly – feedback report.

I usually like Google, but here, it’s doing a very poor job.

My latest example, struggling to find why Apache2 wants very badly that all my forums be chmodded to 755, with log reporting that
Permission denied: /some/path/.htaccess pcfg_openfile: unable to check htaccess file, ensure it is readable

Please enjoy the irony : a google.com search found me that thread :

But searching for pcfg, *pcfg and *pcfg* with the forum’s internal search engine, provided by google, gives zero (0) results.

Was the previous search engine really that bad ? 😉

    Greetings everyone,
    Sabinou

  • The previous search engine was fine. It’s just that it was powered by Yahoo, who … well, decided one day to turn it off.

And we know the search situation sucks right now. It’s on the to-do list.
