• Hi everyone.

currently I have a WordPress installation with hostgator. I used cpanel originally to do an automatic install.

I’m going to redevelop my website and as such I want to start from a blank slate while keeping all my registered users.

what would be the best way to achieve this? can I just delete the WordPress folder and reinstall from the cpanel or will this also wipe out the database (which holds the users)

thanks for any help you can provide.

  • Start by taking a backup of your database.

What I would try – after taking a backup – is using a plugin do do that for you. F.e. a specific backup plugin and that allows you to backup specific parts of your database. In your case the registered users.

There are probably simpler ways of doing it.

As a note: by redeveloping your site, do you mean a new theme (in which case you don’t need to make a new database) of do you really wanna start of with a new database (in which case simply deleting the folder but not the database won’t do).

I want to do a total wipe of everything. WordPress installation and whatever database it uses.

Then do a totally fresh install and then re import all the user account.

Maybe its just easier to ask everyone to re-register?

    Easier for you yes.
I’d try and import the users from the old to the new DB.
    Expect complications though.
