Fresh 1.0.1 install hangs (3 posts)

    Apologies if I'm doing something stupid, or this is handled elsewhere, but I just tried to install a fresh clean 1.0.1 on Linux and it's not happy. First wp-admin/install-config.php couldn't get past step 2 - it just displayed the WordPress banner and no page content. So I generated my own wp-config.php and ran the install.php page directly, which just produces a blank page.
    I've used various die() calls to track down the fact that the following line, in wp-include/wb-db.php, never seems to return:
    $wpdb = new wpdb(DB_USER, DB_PASSWORD, DB_NAME, DB_HOST);
    Unfortunately I don't know nearly enough about PHP to figure out why this might be the case. My Perl scripts all run fine using the same database settings, so I'm fairly sure they're correct. In case it matters I'm using:
    PHP: 4.1.2
    MySQL: 3.23.56
    Apache: 1.3.27
    Redhat 7.2
    Any advice would be much appreciated!

    Having the exact same issue with Fedora Core 1 using PHP 4.3.4, MySQL 3.23.58 and Apache 2.0.48.

    I get the same -- RH7.3/Apache 1.3.27, PHP 4.1.2
