Support » Plugin: All-in-One WP Migration » Frequently problems, proprietary download

  • It downloads a .wpress file that you can’t open except for using the plugin. I’ve tried using this on several websites. Sometimes it works, but it’s very problematic most of the time either getting stuck at 0.00% for an hour with no sort of status message at all, or getting stuck mid way through the upload. It’s very unintuitive in the sense that it doesn’t tell you what’s going on.

I’ve had it fail more times than succeed, on various hosts include GoDaddy managed wordpress, WP Engine, Flywheel, or local hosts including Uniserv and Laragon.

Today, I downloaded two very large websites to find that neither of them will even begin importing:

So what’s next? Delete the huge downloads and use something else, wasting several hours of my time.

This is too much. They don’t even offer refunds. Do not buy this junk software by the lame business who backs it. Just use Updraft Plus which is what I constantly have to switch to after it fails. At least that can produce zip files which you can extract.

I regret my purchase and would not recommend this product to anybody with more than a very simple wordpress site.

To see the contents of the file, you can use this tool: https://traktor.servmask.com
The format is not proprietary, it is open source and documented here: https://github.com/yani-/wpress
WPRESS vs ZIP is described here: https://blog.servmask.com/wpress-vs-zip/

Your screenshot shows that the upload is not working – what we usually recommend is to upload the file via FTP to wp-content/ai1wm-backups folder and restore the backup once it is on the server.
Why the upload does not work?
    1. It takes time to upload a file, you might be impatient and need to wait a bit longer when your internet or server’s internet is not fast.
    2. Server restriction – you can get around it by using the approach I shared above.

So what’s next? Delete the huge downloads and use something else, wasting several hours of my time.

You should have reached over to our support team who should have told you what I just did.

Yes, we do not offer refunds. Why? You can read about it here: https://blog.servmask.com/picking-the-right-refund-policy/

I am happy that you found something that works for you, keep using it.
