Free version not working WITHOUT paid version

Hi there,

I’m using this plugin rarely, just for small projects, cause I don’t have huge sites.

Today I wanted to import from file, the only way I could’ve used it without paying and it FORCES me to download something OUTSIDE the WordPress plugin directory in order to make it work.

How’s that possible? I mean, why are you not uploading that plugin here? Why make people download another plugin to use all-in-one-wp-migration?

I really don’t get it.

I mean, All In One WP Migration is practically not useful for free anymore. Not by itself, just in combination with other downloads from websites outside this one? Didn’t even know that’s agreed in WP’s TOS.

Importing a backup is supported via many options, some free some paid.
To enable file import, you need to follow the instructions in the plugin.
Restoring a backup up to 512MB is free via our file extension plugin.

I think one of us is losing it, cause from where I’m standing there’s no FREE & SAFE, Opensource import option.
What are the FREE options right now? WITHOUT additional plugins.
– For File import you have to install a third party plugin that never went through WP’s security scan
– The rest are all paid

To the best of my knowledge there is no such thing as WP’s security scan.

I understand that the recent changes might not be liked by everyone but moving forward, the plugin will continue to operate like this.

So you agree with me that this plugin in THIS form, can’t be used for free?
Needs additional plugin installed and that plugin is not part of WP repository.

It doesn’t do anything for free without installing your self-hosted plugin.
So without your other code, NSFW IMHO, it’s just a bridge to your business.

It’s a shame really. I was so happy to move away from the Duplicator plugin as this one was so much easier to use and I ran into no problems in any migration I ever attempted with it. My security protocols just will not allow me to download and install an externally hosted plugin, which is require now for both the free and paid versions of this plugin. Until they are rolled back into the WP hosted plugin I am abandoning this. Please reconsider the completely unreasonable situation you have put many of us into for this. If the paid version included the import and was hosted on WP I’d be inclined to consider going in that direction. As is, you’re dead to me.

I agree. That’s just impossible. Thus, this good plugin is worthless and no longer used. The hoped-for business will not come. So I downgrade to version 6.77 and create my own version.
Tip for downgrade:
– Install plugin “WP Rollback”
– Dowgrade to version 6.77
– Do not update to new versions

Importing a file just doesn’t work any more, under the limit just hangs, various php versions tried, various browsers and discussions with techs at the server end.
I do not mind anyone making money from what it an excellent product, it was free for years and you guys deserve your reward.
You have however got the pricing completely wrong, breaking it up into a confusing mess you need to change your accountant for someone who understands this business.
It’ also way overpriced.
Here’s what you need to know.
As it’s an online purchase it has much in common with impulse buys. It must therefor be easy to make that choice and not at a price that makes people go ouch.
If this were $20.00 to keep the same functionality as the product that won you the love of your previous users for the free product I am sure almost everyone would have said ‘fair play, these guys did a great job and deserve my money’ and then buy, I know I would have.
What has happened instead is that you’ve pissed everyone off and priced yourselves confusingly and above the price point of similar solutions and it’s really sad to see it.
You have clearly been under the cosh about this from every direction, this is not a result of the product you produced but of a serious misjudgment by accounting input into the business. It’s a confusing mess.
Not being honest about the free version still being free for file sizes under the limit is also not helping.
Thanks for the great work before and I wish you the best of luck in the future but I fear you won’t have that with your current deeply flawed and confusing model.

The code of Import from file has not changed, it is just separated into two places. If the import is not working for you, please post a new support forum here and we will assist you with the issue.
The changes in the plugin are *not* intended to add monetization.
