Free Shipping Bar for “Locations not covered by your other zones”

I would like to use the Free Shipping Progress Bar that came with the plugin however I only ship to certain areas. I have shipping zones and shipping method created for these areas.
However, for new customers, the shipping bar is not shown because by default they do not have an address. The only way around this I could think of is to add a free shipping method under “Locations not covered by your other zones”. However this would mean that the new customer will be able to checkout using this method. (which I do not want)
1.Is there a way to show default (let’s say) $50 for free shipping without actually creating a shipping method?
2.Also if I recall correctly, there used to be text below subtotals where I can edit the message. How do I get this message back? (with the option for translations)
