Recently I activated the free plugin, put an image and message on home page, and when I logged out and tested the home page and old URLs, it seemed to work. But today I made a test post and a third party site “saw” the post, and tweeted it on their feed. That should not happen AFAIK. Nobody should be alerted to new posts while the site is behind the Coming Soon Plugin, right? Especially Google?

I looked into this and for the feedburner email collection to work you have to expose your feed. I’ll add an update that if you are not using feedburner then it will block access.

    Thanks John.

Not sure why you mean by “exposing the feed” (and if you mean to say I have not “blocked” the feed when I should have), but I’ve not really changed any Google feed settings since the time when I started it up a couple years ago. As a user what would be cool is a setting for the plugin that says “don’t allow feeds to distribute content while testing” (something to that effect) so that it’s sort of a one click guarantee that feed services won’t “see” test posts, etc.

So until the update… what’s the best course of action, to temporarily shut down my Google Feedburner account? Thanks again! I appreciate the info on a weekend. 🙂

As a stop gap you can just just save your blog post as draft instead of publishing them. This way they are not added to the feed.
