Free crop not working on WPML Translations
-
Dear Support,
I noticed that the free crop option stores images as imgname-scaled-aspect-ratio-0-0 for wpml languages other than the default language. However, there is no problem for pre-defined aspect ratio’s.
Any help on this?

Dear support,
I hereby update my support question: The problem is with the free crop function in general: the image refuses to crop properly on secondary WPML languages. The function with an pre-defined aspect ratio works without problems for translations.
Hey,
Can you tell me what’s the actual issue? Are there any other problems than the filename being wrong?
Edit: I just saw your update. I’ll look into this if I can reproduce this issue in my end.

Dear Joppuyo,
I as well have looked deeper into the issue. Right now I am experiencing the following problems:
– Both image aspect ratio and free crop are working well in dutch (default language)
– Right now: free and aspect ratio crop are acting strangely in other languages. For the free crop for example, I can still see the full image, but the cropped zone is visible and the zone outside the crop area is black. Sometimes the aspect ratio crop is not completed at all.Dear Joppuyo,
The problem seems to persist in ACF flexible content fields.
Dear Joppuyo,
Any update on this issue? It is becoming really urgent.
Hey,
I’m not able to reproduce this issue on my end. I created a new WP 5.4.2 site and I’m running the following plugins:
* Advanced Custom Fields PRO 5.8.12
* Advanced Custom Fields: Image Aspect Ratio Crop 3.3.1
* WPML Multilingual CMS 4.3.16
* WPML String Translation 3.0.12
* WPML Translation Management 2.9.9
* WPML Media 2.5.5Cropping works fine with two different languages.
Do you have the WPML Media plugin installed? I think not having this plugin might be causing these issues.
I understand that this might be an urgent issue for you but please understand that I work on this plugin on my free time and because of that I can’t provide any kind of SLA for bug fixes

If you scroll down to media in the WPML settings page, can you post a screenshot of your media settings? I’m using the following:

Dear joppuyo,
Thank you, I have setup everything as you described but I still encounter issues with some pictures.
I can show you what’s happening on example
Hey.
Unfortunately, I’m still not able to reproduce this issue on my end.
Would it be possible to create a minimal reproduction example for this issue? Like a simple WordPress site with TwentyTwenty theme, WPML, and ACF plugins. If you could then zip the files and the database and send them to me.
My email address is johannes@siipo.la . Please also include step by step instructions on how to reproduce the issue.
I know this might take some time to put together but it’s not very easy to fix the issue if I can’t reproduce it myself.
Thanks!

Dear joppuyo,
I Just noticed something. When the black zone around the image appears, the filename of the cropped image becomes: filename-scaled-aspect-ratio-705-735 instead of filename-aspect-ratio-705-735.
What could this mean?
Kind regards,
Laurens
I think this might have something to do with the big image handing in WordPress 5.3. Because WordPress will resize any image above 2560px, there’s some extra logic in this plugin to get the original image and perform the crop there. I think there might be some issue with WPML that causes the coordinates to be calculated incorrectly.
Did you have time to create a minimal reproducible example? Because I can’t replicate this issue myself it’s really hard to try to find out what’s causing the issue.
Dear Johannes,
I have setup a reproduction example and have sent it to you by mail.
Kind regards,
Laurens
I got your message and managed to reproduce the issue in your environment, but in order to start fixing the issue, I would need the database and site files so I can debug it in my local environment.

Dear Johannes,
I was no longer able to reproduce the issue so you can mark it as solved. Thank you so much for your help and for adjusting the links on the free crops in the latest update.
A nice to have feature would also be to be able to select a previously cropped image based on the dimensions in the filename, without ending up with multiple same crops of the same image.
Kind regards,
Laurens
This is resolved.
