Form fields not re-ordering

I built a profile form a year ago that now has data in it from members.
The form is in a three-column format.
I now want to add a few fields and change the order of some of the fields.
I don’t want to lose the existing data in the forms.
I add a few new fields and then I drag and drop and re-order the fields in the order I want them to be.
I click the “Update” button. After the page reloads, the fields are no longer in the order I put them in. They have changed to a different order and are all jumbled up.
Can you please help?
