Support » Requests and Feedback » Four seconds timeout is too short to send a trackback

  • WordPress has 4 seconds timeout to send a trackback, but it may be too short. Some systems take more than 10 seconds to complete a request to trackback even without network congestion. In this situation, WordPress tries to resend the trackback (whenever a new post is done) for ever.

    I propose 30 seconds timeout and to modify wp-includes/comment.php like:

    function trackback($trackback_url, $title, $excerpt, $ID) {
            global $wpdb;
            if ( empty($trackback_url) )
            $options = array();
            $options['timeout'] = 30; # modified
            $options['body'] = array(
                    'title' => $title,
                    'url' => get_permalink($ID),
                    'blog_name' => get_option('blogname'),
                    'excerpt' => $excerpt
