 * What are your intentions? A contact form or what?
    Do you intend to code the 
   form? Or use a plugin?
 * Your question is pretty darned generic, but there is a tonneof stuff on Google,
   regardless of which option you are looking into.

   I use CF7 for basic contact forms

 * Thank you for your mine of information.
    I play bowls and evey week we have six
   sides picked with four teams in each side and four Players in each Team. Thus
   I need a form into which I can place the names of the Players which may vary 
   each week. I also need a similar form into which I can place the results for 
   each game each week. Could you give me a couple of examples of how you use googling.
   I do not understand its use. Meanwhile I shall explore the links that you supplied.
   My original query occurred because when I tried to make a form using wordPress
   I had a number of options but I could not understand how they all worked. I fiddled
   around but thought that – does a users manual or something similar exist.

 * Googling = web search
 * I just meant there are tutorials on the web to do just about anything with WordPress,
   including using forms.
 * Are you trying to make this form on the back end, or front end?
 * As in, the back end, the admin side, where you post from, etc
 * or, the front end, where posts appear, the public facing side
