The instruction that asks previous entrants to enter their email to get a link (if they “forgot subscribed link”) doesn’t work.

    (Tested with my own account.)

    Hi @pepperf,

I just tested that form and I got the link. The email that is entered must be already a subscriber since this is used to get the “subscribed” email again.

Other emails are coming through as supposed?

Hi @ibenic , thank you for responding so quickly.

    Couple of more things:

    • Yes, the other emails seem to come through OK.
    • I created this giveaway by cloning a completed giveaway. Everything seems to work OK except that when I go to test it with a test address I used previously, it gives me the “already subscribed” message. But, really, there are no subscribers–it’s a brand new giveaway (but created by clone). Do I need to delete all the prior subscribers of the other giveaway from the database? That seems weird, because then will all new subscribers be put in that (old) giveaway list?

    Thank you,
    Pepper

@ibenic let me add one more thing. I tested with a new email address, and it does record new subscribers under a new giveaway.

So it seems to recognize prior subscribers, but then the “you forgot?” link doesn’t seem to work.

Ideally, I would prefer not to delete the subscribers if I don’t have to. My subscribers are not likely to be tech experts. They are mostly older people who use tech only for fun. If their registrations could be remembered, but they could be allowed to sign up for the new giveaway, that would be easiest for them.

But if I need to delete them from the first giveaway to make it work, that is what I will do.

Please let me know when you have a minute.

    Thank you,
    Pepper

Hi @pepperf, you don’t have to delete subscribers.

Each Giveaway is a separate content so even if cloned, there are no subscribers for that giveaway. People have to subscribe again.

The “forgot link” works only for that one giveaway. So if the email you type is was not already subscribed to tgat particular giveaway, you won’t get an email.

Thank you, @ibenic. Why does it appear as an option? There seems to be a cookie, perhaps, that remembers the person already subscribed? (The email is still there, but you can’t change it. I wanted to change it to another email to test.)

Is it possible for me to change the text on the page to explain this to users?

    Hi @pepperf,

That option is there in case a user comes to the page but the page does not show the “subscribed” version. So he/she can get the same subscription email with the link that once clicked will set a unique cookie and show “subscribed” version of the giveaway again.

The email can’t be changed once subscribed (in the edit form) because that’s the primary identification of the subscriber. People could then change their emails once subscribed (into a fake one maybe) and when you export the users, you will have fake emails.

To test the page, I would recommend using the incognito mode of browsers (Chrome, Firefox have them, not sure about other browsers). Or you could check cookies for giveasap_{NUMBER} where {NUMBER} is the ID of the Giveaway. Once deleted, you can visit the giveaway URL (without the ?ref if it has one in the URL), and you will be able to test it again. Or when testing, you can delete your email under Subscribers page. Then, you can use the same email again for that giveaway.

Thank you, I can understand why you would not want an email to be changed.
