Forcing Function to Return instead of Echo?

    Duplicate the function getCustomField() (in functions.php file), call it something else but related and manipulate the the returned value to a variable rather than an echo.

    im not sure how to do that since I don’t understand php too well.. I would have to do all that to force the function return instead of echo?
