Force user to calculate shipping

Hi,

I have configured the locations my shop can ship to via WooCommerce/Settings/General and set up specific shipping zones in WooCommerce/Settings/Shipping. Each zone has a specific flat rate charge to it, therefore it is important for the user to ‘Calculate shipping’ before they check-out.

In scenario 1 – If the user adds products to cart and then selects ‘View basket’ (https://picflick.co.za/basket) they can easily calculate the shipping costs by selecting from the zones I have defined. The total price changes perfectly (see attached)

However, in scenario 2 I am having issues and need your help. If the user adds products to cart and then selects ‘Checkout’ (https://picflick.co.za/checkout) without first viewing the basket, they DO NOT have the option to ‘calculate shipping’ and therefore the system defaults to the 1st shipping zone and incorrectly allocated the costs (see attached).

Please can you assist me with resolving this? Is there a way to force the user to calculate their shipping in the event they skip ‘viewing basket’ and go straight to ‘checkout’

It sounds like there may be a setting that isn’t quite right or a conflict happening with the theme.

Could you please share a copy of your site’s System Status? You can find it via WooCommerce > Status.
Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”. Once you’ve done that, paste it here in your response.

Hi @picflick

Thanks for providing the System Status Report.

I took a look at the checkout page and see that there is a Flat Rate also calculated in the cart (basket) as well before I enter an address. This is most likely happening due to a setting. I would recommend taking a look at the settings when you go to WooCommerce>Settings>General. It sounds like you may want to set the Default customer location to be no location by default
