[Resolved] Force PDF (or any file) download

    Hi there,

    This is so far a really great plugin. Does what is needed of it right now. May upgrade and use and contribute more – I am still a bit new in WP.

    Though, I am trying to get files to download automatically/forcibly, not open in the browser. I am using PDF’s and would like users to download/save to a folder the PDF and not provide them with instructions to ‘save as’ …

    Thanks all in advance. Chat/comment soon 🙂

  • hi
    you may try enable “Always Force Download” in WP-Filebase >> Settings >> Download settings. Here is one tip
    And maybe another tip also from Fabian’s (plugin author)site:

    To force PDF download on FTP sites create a .htaccess file in the FTP root directory:

    <FilesMatch "\.(?i:pdf)$">
    ForceType application/octet-stream
    Header set Content-Disposition attachment
    </FilesMatch>>

    I copy-pasted from here
    I always use his site for documentation and tips – recommending!

    Hi there helirexi,

    Apologies for the late response. Great, thank you. I’m not sure how I saw past the “Always Force Download” setting – enabling that did the trick.

    Thank you

    Setting the “always force download doesn’t work properly for me – it’s really hit-and-miss. Does it only work on files downloaded after it’s been set? Clearing it and setting it again means that (for me at least) files already uploaded are streamed instead of being supplied as attachments.

    Adding the .htaccess file described above in the WP root directory worked though (without the repeated > at the end.)
