    Hello,

    This is my first foray into setting up a child theme. I have copied the style.css, functions.php and footer.php into the child folder and made slight modifications. I made a slight copy change in the footer.php.

    However, the changes are not being picked up on the site (view here).

    Am I missing a step?

    Thanks.

    Your site is currently using the Prospectum theme – which, I assume, is the parent theme. Have you reviewed Child_Themes?

    Yes, the parent is prospectum.

    I have reviewed the codex on child themes as well as many links referred to in the codex and a google search.

    I did some more testing and realized that NONE of the files are working, not even the style.css.

    This is what the information says:

    /*
    Theme Name: Vertical Spin Theme
    Description: Child theme for Vertical Spin on Viva Theme's Prospectum.
    Template: prospectum
    version: 1.0
    Tags: two-column, widget-ready, business, corporate, vertical-spin
    */

    @import url("../prospectum/style.css");

    (more styles here...)

    I matched this exactly to the codex examples, but it’s still not working…

    Thanks.

    Are you sure that the parent’s theme folder name is correct? Is the parent optimised for child themes? Not all themes are.

    Hmm, where can I look to see if the theme is optimised for child themes? I have a feeling you might be right…

    is there a way to optimise the theme if it’s not?

    Thanks.

    Okay, nevermind. I figured it out. Somehow when I activated the child theme it didn’t take! So now I activated it again and it’s working.
