Footer widget breaks after activating Adminimize 1.8.5 | WordPress.org

I’m referring to an old post (https://wordpress.org/support/topic/footer-widget-disabled-not-visible)

I seem to have the same problem. After deactivating the Adminimize plugin all works well. Activating it again causes the footer widget to disappear and only leave a grey top border.

Does anyone know what’s going on here?

I temporarily solved the problem by renaming the widget in my functions.php from footer to footer-columns. That seems to do the trick. However I’m curious as to how this can happen. Aren’t you allowed to a widget ID called footer?
