Folders in wp-content have deleted themselves?

    Our website has suddenly got broken images across the whole website.

    I checked all the URL’s and they were correct, so I logged into the FTP account to check the folder permissions, but all the folders in ‘wp-content’ have disappeared.

    We haven’t done anything to remove them, but they’re all missing.

    Has anyone experienced a similar issue? What do you suggest?

    do you have a backup of your files?
    does your webhost have a backup of your files?
    are your themes and plugins still in the wp-content folder?
    are you using a CDN or other image management tool?

    Luckily we’re with the hosting company 1&1 and they’ve got a back-up of our website, so we’ve restored the missing files.

    We’re not sure what caused the issue.

    I’ll report back if we ever find out.

    This is not the default behavior of WP core!

    Therefore, something else is making them disappear.
