Support » Fixing WordPress » Flipping back to the login page….

  • I have been desperately trying to help a website client with an old WP website which was manually installed at GoDaddy. After 3 hours on the phone with GoDaddy (during which the php version was upgraded and the database was upgraded) I am now unable to log into WP. Each time I put in the username and password I am flipped back to the login page. Please note that if I put in an incorrect password I get the usual error message so I know that’s not the problem. GoDaddy have now said that they can’t help me and I need to talk to WordPress. I am at a loss!

    The site is

Does anyone have any ideas how I can help my client fix this?

  • I would trying uploading an unedited version of twentyeleven theme (if one is not already in place), then rename each existing theme folder to old-theme_folder_name. Then I would rename the plugins folder to old-plugins….this will allow you to test WP with default theme and no plugins.

Also, make sure to clear your browser cache.

    Thanks Seacoast Web Design

I’m not sure I understand the theme solution. twentyeleven is in the directory. The theme that’s currently being used is in a folder named default. Which folders do I rename?

I’ve renamed the plugins folder – no dice.

Is there any way of copying the information via FTP then installing WordPress on my system and uploading the content? Since I can’t get into WordPress where the website is currently installed I can’t export the files like I would normally.

Try deactivating the theme that is currently active via FTP – change the theme folder name. WordPress should then default to the twentytwelve theme — and let you login.

I have tried renaming the folder – the enter site disappears and only a blank screen is shown. I think this may have something to do with the fact that this was a manual install by the original (now AWOL) webmaster.

I will try the other suggestions in the Login_Trouble page……
