Flexible footer

Hello, Does anybody know how to make flexible/fluid footers (the ones that spread across the entire width of the bottom)? I’ve been trying to create one myself but I got stuck. I found some css that worked for my header, but when I try that for the footer, it doesn’t seem to work. (I use the Twenty Ten 1.2 theme).
