To upload media to the root folder you can use FTP software or temporarily change the image upload path in Settings > Miscellaneous (personally I think FTP would be better).
is there a particulat configuration i need to use the ftp? the one im using seems to kick me out once my password has been authenticated. not sure if its the software or a problem with the connection with wordpress
FTP software does not “connect with WordPress”. It connects to your server. I don’t know why it would “kick you out” but my guess is that something in the settings of your FTP program is incorrect.
also when i go into Settings > Miscellaneous to change the path of uploaded items to go to the root folder. it doesnt seem to work. ive deleted everything in that setting, yet when i go to media to upload my swf file, the url path name still gives me the default path.
