I am new to WordPress and I am looking for a theme that is a fixed width but has separate backgrounds for the header, body, and footer that extend the full width of the screen. For example, the screen can appear to be divided into three horizontal bands, white top, black body, and blue footer. The actual header, body, and footer would have their own background settings.
I like Twenty-Eleven, but I do not see where I can divide the background outside of the fixed body into three horizontal panels to match the division of the fixed body. I know I can change the overall background, but need it to be three horizontal panels. Do I need to place the header, body, and footer into separate wrappers, not sure?
Twenty Eleven is very good and easy to customize. Splitting backgrounds should be pretty straightforward. You could create a background image with e.g. http://pixlr.com/editor/ and divide it into three different colors and apply that to your body:
background: #888 url('images/bg.png) no-repeat;
I could create a background that way but would not the center section be fixed in depth, and I need it to dynamically lengthen relative to the body content. If that is not the case, please let me know.
