Support » Installing WordPress » first installation of WP on Synology DS216J

I have always used a provider for my sites and decided that having my own server would be beneficial. I bought a Synology DS216J with to 4TB drives. I loaded a fresh copy (from WP.org) onto the server and into my site that I am building.

On the setup page it asks for DB Name, DB Username, DB Password, DB Host and Table prefix. I get an error on the host as it says Localhost. Should this be set to the IP address of the Server? Or folder?

Does your synology thing include a Maria or MySQL DB server? If so, have you enabled (and secured) it and is it running?

As far as I am able to ascertain the Synology DS216J is a NAS device. It is not a server capable of running PHP, Apache/NGINX, and MySQL/MariaDB which provides the infrastructure on which WordPress runs.

Can you provide more information about your setup. Are you using a local development environment such as MAMP/WAMP/XXAMP? Where is this installed? Or have you installed PHP, Apache/NGINX, and MySQL/MariaDB separately? In which case where have you installed them?

Most pertinently to you, where is your database server (i.e. MySQL/MariaDB) installed?

When you run the WordPress setup where are you running it from?

There is a ready to use WordPress package for Synology. Did you consider it?

    Regards,

I forgot to add link of package:

    https://www.synology.com/en-us/dsm/packages/WordPress

Also according to documentation, it supports your NAS (Synology DS216J).

    Hope it helps.

I am using the Synology WordPress.

I kind of gave up on this and wiped the machine clean. Reinstalled all the software including the Time Machine and several other packages that are available through Synology.

Just for the heck of it I browsed for my site after deleting it off of my machine. AND THE SITE COMES up. Synology is looking into this for me.
