While setting up the new “Firewall” feature in the dashboard this message appeared:

We were unable to create the wordfence-waf.php file in the root of the WordPress installation. It’s possible WordPress cannot write to the wordfence-waf.php file because of file permissions. Please verify the permissions are correct and retry the installation.

How to set up permissions of files and folders on WP installation? I would like to do the updates automatically also in the future.

    Thank you for your advice.

    Hi,

The permissions for the main directory of the site need to allow read/write permissions for the user the web server runs as. If you have any security plugins that took “hardening” steps to secure your site, you may need to temporarily turn off those features.

Alternately, you can temporarily change the permissions manually using FTP or a file manager in your host’s control panel.
