Filter products by selecting one or more categories

    I use woocommerce for a products page.
    I use two parent product categories which get their child categories (kind of object:chair, couch, table / material: wood, plastic, textile).
    I also use attributes which are useful to filter products on shop page thanks to YITH WooCommerce Ajax Navigation plugin.
    What I would like, is to use these top level categories for menu and also for filtering products in shop page like in this site. Would you advise me to duplicate all my categories as attributes too? Or is there a way to filter products as categories with checkboxes so as to the user could select one or more categories?
    Any help would be appreciated,
