From what I understand, you’re in the process of creating a beauty and cosmetics website and you’re looking for assistance in setting up filters for product type, skin type, and skin concern on your shop page. I’m here to help!

To establish these filters, you can utilize the Product Categories feature of WooCommerce. This function lets you classify your products according to various attributes, helping your customers locate the products they need more easily.

Here’s a simple guide on how to create product categories:

    1. In your WordPress dashboard, navigate to Products > Categories.
    2. Enter the Name for the category.
    3. Add a Slug (optional); this is the URL-friendly version of the name.
    4. Choose a Parent if this is a subcategory.
    5. Enter a Description (optional); some themes display this.
    6. Choose the Display type. Decide what is shown on the category’s landing page. “Standard” uses your theme’s default. “Subcategories” will display only the subcategories. “Products” only displays products. “Both” will display subcategories and products below that.
    7. Upload/Add Image (optional);  Some themes have pages where product category images are displayed, so this is a good idea.

Repeat these steps for each category you want to establish, such as product type, skin type, skin concern, and their respective subcategories.

For a more sophisticated filtering system, consider using the Product Filters for WooCommerce plugin. Hi @bisratlearn ,
thank you for the above response.

Let me explain what I need to do briefly and if the plugin supports that, I will be using it. The beauty and cometics products on the website have been categorized based on product type (toners, cleansers, sunscreen etc ), skin type (oily, normal, dry and etc) and skin concerns ( acne, dark spots, dryness and etc). What I would like to do is present filters on the product archive page with title – shop by product type, shop by skin type and shop by skin concerns. Product type filter will have it’s sub-categories and likewise. Right now I can only get one category filter which says shop by categories and it has all the categories and sub-categories without any hierarchy. Can I do this using the plugin mentioned above? If yes, how. What I am understanding by my research is I need to create custom taxonomies but I am not able to implement them. Please help me out.

    Thank you.

    Hello @prakasharbadev,

    Thank you for the clarification.

based on product type (toners, cleansers, sunscreen etc ), skin type (oily, normal, dry and etc) and skin concerns ( acne, dark spots, dryness and etc). What I would like to do is present filters on the product archive page with title

You can simply add these as product attributes. For instance, instead of using ‘Brands’ like in the screenshot above, you could use a ‘skin type’ attribute with terms such as oily, normal, and dry. When a customer chooses ‘dry’, they will be shown all products with the ‘dry’ attribute, and so on.

Also, as mentioned previously, all extensions sold on WooCommerce.com have a 30-day refund policy. If the product doesn’t work the way you need it or you think another product would work better, we are more than happy to provide a full refund or help you find an alternative.

    Hope this helps!
