Files downloading but are 0kb when encryption is enabled

We are trying to block people from downloading certain files by using the URL to the file. I found a post stating if we put an .htaccess file with “deny from all” in the directory we want to deny people from accessing directly using a URL and enabling encryption on the File Away shortcode we could achieve this. I haven’t added the htaccess file yet, but enabled encryption. Now for some reason, some files download fine, but others download and are 0kb. With encryption disabled it downloads all file fine. This issue isn’t specific to file size, file type, directory or file permissions. I’m at a loss, any thoughts?
