File permissions issue with new install

    Hi

    I’m running a new install of wp and when creating the wp-config.php at the first step, I get the following error: ‘A file permissions error has occurred. Please check the permissions on the script and the directory it is in and try again.’ Which files do I need to change permissions?

    Thanks

    Try changing the permissions on the main WP directory to ensure that it is writeable.

    Unable to create directory /httpdocs/wp-content/uploads/2011/01. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

    Plese anyone give me a solution for this error…

    Thanks for your reply esmi, I’ve set the permissions for the root public_html file to 777 but unfortunately this hasn’t worked. Is there something else I can try? Thanks

    ok after uploading all files again, I’ve managed to link the database (got the ‘all right sparky’ message), however the following install step I just a get a blank white screen. here: http://www.mydomain.co.uk/wp-admin/install.php.

    I’ve installed many wordpress sites but never had these issues before. Not sure what’s going on!

    Hi

    I have the same issue with a fresh install of wordpress 3.05 … I have done a previous wordpress blog which ironically is in a sub folder.
    All looks very similar. The only thing that is different is the

    .htaccess

    # BEGIN WordPress
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
    </IfModule>

    # END WordPress
