Support » Plugin: BackUpWordPress » File exclusions no longer working

    Hi there,
we’ve been using BackUpWordPress for some time now without too many problems (occasionally the complete backup process hangs) but recently I noticed that the complete backup has increased in size from roughly 150MB to over 300MB. I had a look at the backup and it doesn’t appear to be excluding certain folders. The folder ‘wp-snapshots’ used by a plug-in called Duplicator is excluded by your plug-in automatically, or, so it says, but when I look at the actual backup it is most definitely included!
I was wondering whether you could shed some light on this strange behaviour. Also, useful to note, I currently only have access to the site through the WP dashboard, for rather complicated reasons, so if it’s possible to sort this out without direct access to the server I would appreciate it. As far as I can tell the PHP version for the site is 5.3.3.
I have tried re-activating the BackUpWordPress plug-in and also re-installing it without success.
Currently, to mitigate the problem, I have set the plug-in to only keep 1 complete backup on the server so we don’t run out of space which is limited; ordinarily we would keep the last 3 (off-site backups are kept as well).

    Hey there –

I’m sorry I missed your post before. 🙁

Sometimes when the schedules get stuck like that you actually need to delete the schedule(s) and re-exclude anything it seems to be including. Our plugin does automatically exclude several other backup folders from other plugins, but we do sometimes miss some. Sometimes other files will creep in as well. So after you’ve set a new schedule up, be sure to check out, via excludes, whether there are other large files or directories/folders as you drill down through the wp-content and other directories (just click on the directory name to drill down or enter that directory). Sometimes additional files can be hiding in there!

Let me know what you find out and whether that works for you!

As this post is older and there have been further updates to the plugin. Can I please have any additional related updates or users having similar issues start a new thread so I can help you more quickly?

Thanks so much! I’m closing this post as resolved, because this is affecting a small number of users at this point and there hasn’t been further updates in a while.

If you’re still having issues please link back to this post (if you were one of the posters on this thread) so I can follow up on the history of your issue.

    Thanks again,
