Does anyone know what happened to the pluggin ‘File Commander’? I wanted to install but it’s not currently available.

It is not more available on WordPress.org for free. 😉

That’s your decision of course Dennis, and I respect it. But, I think you’re making a mistake.

Just so you know, I used File Commander once about a year ago and it solved an important problem for a client. I remembered how effective it was and looked for it again just recently but could not find it outside the repository, even as a paid offering.

Since it’s now much harder to find, you might think more carefully about the marketing of File Commander if you want to reach as large an audience as that which searches for solutions in the plugin directory.

If I were you, I’d put File Commander back in the repository and maybe offer premium support on a membership basis. A number of plugins do that quite successfully like Nextgen, Xloner, WPML, DIY Thesis Theme, and others.

Personally, I won’t pay for or donate to ANY plugin developer until I see how often the plugin is needed, how well it suits my needs and how well it performs, how well it’s supported, and how responsive the developer is to the needs of the user base.

It takes a while to build the trust of your customer and trust is what it’s all about.
