• Hi,
This maybe a dumb question but how do I get to see a Thumbnail of my Feature Images in the Media Library? I have spent ages going through options and nothing seems to work. Is this even a possibility?

    Hi, @vherring.

how do I get to see a Thumbnail of my Feature Images in the Media Library?

FIFU doesn’t store images in the media library. Please read FIFU Settings > Help > Getting Started.

    Is this even a possibility?

Yes. Take a look at FIFU Settings > Featured image > Save in the media library

    Hi Marcel,
Thanks for taking the time to respond to me. I am not sure if I made myself clear. I want the image to be where the image is stored. In my case SmugMug, however I want a Thumbnail of that image stored in the Media Library so that I know what I have used and what I haven’t and so I can re-use. I have this functionality of images with “External Media without Import” plugin so I thought it would be same in this plug in.

This plugin is awesome, I use it a lot and the Video and Slideshow option are extremely good.

    Thanks

    Vic

    Hi, @vherring.

I want the image to be where the image is stored.

So you just want to display the external images in the media library. It was possible before, but the media library was getting extremelly slow, because there are sites with hundreds of thousands of image URLs. Moreover some users tried to edit the images. And FIFU for now only can optimize the images outside dashboard.
It’s not an impossible thing, but to do that I think it would be better to create an alternative media library (let’s call it “FIFU Media Library”), not the official one. Would it work for you?

    In my case SmugMug,

I don’t know SmugMug, but I belive it’s a place to store images, right? How many images do you have there?

so that I know what I have used and what I haven’t and so I can re-use.

So your goal is basically to know if your SmugMug images are featured images of your posts?

“Save in the Media Library” is a Pro option.

Right now all FIFU images are stored externally… But when it is referenced in a post as thumbnail, it appears full resolution slowing down the post page loading.

    What do you recommend?

    Hi, @dounsa.

Please open a new ticket. Your issue is not related to this one.

    Hi Marcel,
Sorry again a long time to respond, didn’t see your second reply I will answer now if that is okay. I see this as a very valuable asset in the FIFU plug in.
Media Library:– This is the most valuable part and I would see everything but the image stored in the library. If possible the EDIT function should be disabled for FIFU images.

The separate Library is not ideal but would provide the functionality, especially if the dashboard “Menu Item” is subordinate the Media Library. It would need Categories and Tags as the main library has to be able divide up the images.

SmugMug is a very large Photo site used by professional photographers in the main, they now also own the Flickr Photo site as well. My workflow is when I am out and about travelling in Australia, I upload images to SmugMug. I write articles and blog posts in WordPress on a very light site storage wise and then reference the photos to the SmugMug original. In SmugMug you can choose sizes etc and edit so I don’t need that functionality. However I would see this of value outside of world I can imagine it would wide applicability especially with people using ever increase cloud services.

My SmugMug library is 13000 images and videos, however we are talking of using a small subset of this.

Yes my aim is to manage my externally referenced images, to understand where they have been used. It could go beyond just featured images.

    Hi, @vherring.

At this moment it can’t be implemented, because we have a large list of requests and we give priority to the most commons ones. But I’d like to thank you for the suggestion. Even though it doesn’t seem us a very essential feature now, it may be something important in the future. Many FIFU features were born this way =)
