Support » Plugin: Free Quotation » Field for Author is very short

  • Hi,
Thanks for your plugin that now seems to work perfect. In the box for “Author” I usually put in author name, year for birth and death and title. Often I find that the title is cut off due to a limitation in the allowed length / number of characters. May I suggest that you adopt one of two possible solutions:

    • Increase the allowed number of characters
    • Add separate fields for year of birth, year of death and title.

    Regards

    Ok!

I can add this additional fileds in next version.

Now I try to add “tags” and give possibility to display quotes by tags.

Great! May I suggest that Author name is on one row. Then bracket-year of birth-year of death-end bracket on a second row. Finally title of the person on a third row. Example:

I think there is a world market for maybe five computers.
    (1897 – 1955)
    chairman of IBM

(All above rows should be centered)

    OK 🙂

It should be ready on the end of this week.

Now I finish tag option and I think that is necessary to rebuild “add menu” because it will be too more information on one screen without order 🙂

    Hi!
I put new version of plugin: 3.0.0 with more option (also with option what you need).

If you have any question how you can customize this version to get what you need – pleas write in this topic. After 1 week I make this topik like resolved.

    Hi,
Great. The date for birth and death comes on a separate line (good) but… …there is a distance between the line for author name and the line for birth and death (not good). Please have a look at: http://science-network.tv/ (only a quarter of the citations have dates on the new fields, the other ones has it written in the Author box. Just refresh this start page and you will see).

I would like to reduce the space between these lines to be minimal (the same for the distance to the comment that may follow). Can you reduce it per default or add a box where I can adjust / reduce it?
    Regards

    Hi

In version 3.0.2 I add box “Signature bottom margin:” last opition in visual editor. You can use it to get what you need (you can use value from -99 to 999) 🙂

    Regards

    Hi
I have tested. I have two suggestions:
    1) I set “Signature bottom margin” to -5 and that seems to be the distance between rows/lines I want to have. However when the “note” stretches over more than one row the distance between the first and second row of the “note” is not influenced by this setting. Have a look at the upper right corner of: http://science-network.tv/ If you refresh the start page it will swap the quote every time. Some quotes has a “note” occupying more than one row/line. In these cases you get a larger space between these lines. Can you update so the setting “Signature bottom margin” also change this distance? If that is impossible to achieve then I will shorten all notes so they can fit in one row/line.
    2) In some quotes I have an author name and a “note” but no years for birth / death. This results in a big space between author name and the “note”. Can you make the row/line for birth/death disappear if both are empty?

    Hi!
You encourage me to devlop this plugin all time 🙂 Thanks! 😉

    1) This problem what you write about it is connected not with bottom-margin, but with line-height. It should be additional parameters.

    2) OK – it’s easy to do, and I can add it to new version.

    BUT –

Now I work with 3.1.0 version that have ajax request (website user can generate quotation when choose one tag from list). And I doesn’t have enough time to develop 2 branch of this plugin in one time because it is problem with compatibility of this solution. I will add this 2 simple action in version 3.1.1 . It’s OK for you?

    Regards

Thanks. I am looking forward to version 3.1.1. When you mentioned additional parameter for line height (1 above). Will you add that later as well?

OK – I add this options to version 3.1.0.

The first – is added to CSS editor.

The second – it was a bug. Thanks for info! I had implemented part of code but my mistake – it was deactivated.

    Hi.

I tested and line height now works fine. 🙂

I cannot see that alterations in “Signature bottom margin:” makes any change. I tried from -99 to +100 and could not see any change.

It would be great with a simple help text stating max and min values for these settings.

I also want to change the distance between the quote and author name. Can you add a setting for that?

    Hi!

Thanks for the update. I have tested and found the following unexpected behavior:

    1) “Signature bottom margin:” seems to alter line height for the signature – author name and comment but using a different scale than “Signature line height:” – (“Signature line height” works better to adjust line height than “Signature bottom margin” because using signature bottom margin introduces an error if the comment extends to more than one row). “Signature bottom margin:” does not seem to alter the space below the signature.

    2) “Signature top margin:” seems to alter the margin below the signature.

I could alter the settings to get what I wanted once I figured out the above. So I can now do what I want with your plugin. Thanks! However, I suggest that you fix the problems 1 and 2 mentioned above because they may annoy other people (giving your plugin a lower grading than it deserves.

    Hi,

I also discovered that if a note (comment) is lacking then the setting in “Signature top margin:” (currently altering the margin below the signature) is being ignored (no note = no margin).
