[resolved] Fictive - Comments option not showing up on blog roll after post (7 posts)

The way I am using my website at the moment, it would be helpful if comments option was available on the blog roll, which is the home page.

In other words the comments form at the end of the post only shows up if you use the menu to find the post, not on the blog roll.

How can I fix that, or will that cause worse issues, and perhaps I should be using my site differently. The site is livingblissed.com, if you need to see what I am talking about.

    Thanks.

  2. Hi there, I'm trying to picture what you have in mind but I'm not sure I understand.

In WordPress, the comment form only displays on single posts, not on the blog index.

Here's an example of a single post - you can see the comment form at the bottom:

I'm not sure what you're referring to as the "blog roll." A blog roll is what we usually call a list of sites you like, and it's usually displayed in a sidebar.

If you're able to clarify what you mean, and perhaps show me an example, I'll be able to help you more easily. Thanks!

    Hi Kathryn,

Thank you for trying to help me.

If you go to my website, you will see what I mean. livingblissed.com

My home page is a rolling list of my posts with most recent first.

Many people find the site via the site url, so they are going to be on this page - where there is no obvious option for comments.

I want people to leave comments, and often suggest they do in the comment form below, but alas it is not there on the home page!

  4. Thanks for clarifying. This is just how WordPress - and most other blogging platforms - works - visitors need to click on the "Leave a comment" link to be able to leave comments. There isn't a way to display the comment form on your blog index page.

Most people who comment on blogs are quite used to this, and hopefully it won't confuse anyone. :-)

Thank you so much, Kathryn. So that is just the way it is supposed to work. Hmmmm...

Now I have another question. I like using the featured image so that I have control over what image is shared on social media. But SOMETIMES it picks up the image and puts it at the top of the post - but not always. That is a problem because I have that image at the start of my article usually, just to be sure it is there. In those cases it goes over the frame, the image is showing twice and obviously does not look good. Can you tell me what to do about that?

A little further exploration reveals that the image is appearing at the top consistently now. (I don't understand why it was inconsistent before.)

But I don't want to delete the one at the top of an article because it contains a link I want it to have. I don't see that you can add a link to a featured image.

Also the Pin it pin appears on both - again, I don't want people pinning the one without the link.

Is there something I can do that I am missing to accomplish my goal?

    Thank you....

That's right, you can't add a link to a featured image.

I like using the featured image so that I have control over what image is shared on social media.

If this is your only reason for using featured images, instead I would suggest you use a plugin that lets you finely control which image is served up to social media, such as this one.

Also the Pin it pin appears on both - again, I don't want people pinning the one without the link.

You'd need to investigate this on the Pinterest plugin side to see if it's possible to prevent the Pin It button from being displayed on featured images.

I also noticed you have an error in your Pinterest code - looks like the script is being called in twice:

<!!-- Please call pinit.js only once per page --><br />
    <script type="text/javascript" async src="//assets.pinterest.com/js/pinit.js"></script></p>
<p><!-- Please call pinit.js only once per page --><br />
    <script type="text/javascript" async data-pin-hover="true" src="//assets.pinterest.com/js/pinit.js"></script></p>
