I’ve got this plugin installed on 4 sites and the feedback icon isn’t working on any of them. Some sites display the “marker” dashicon while one of them displays the “backup” dashicon (the one used for revisions). None of them display the correct “feedback” dashicon. Is there any way to fix that?

Also, from the screenshots page it looks like I should be able to choose an icon when adding an item to the menu, but I can’t figure it out. Am I missing something?

Along the same lines, is it possible to use an icon from a url instead of a dashicon? When I set up a custom post type, I can use either dashicons or urls for the menu icon. I’ve only got one post type using a url, but Glance That displays the “marker” dashicon. I’d like them both to be consistent and prefer to keep the url icon rather than switching to a dashicon (none really suit the post type). If there is anyway I can customise that, I would appreciate it.

As an aside — I was using more url icons but decided to switch them to dashicons to match up with Glance That icons. Once I updated the post type options, I reloaded the Dashboard and nothing changed. I had to remove the items I had changed and then add them again. Those icons all work fine now, but I’m just wondering if that’s the intended behaviour or should it have updated when I reloaded the page?

Lastly, it would be great to be able to drag and drop the Glance That items to reorder them. Not a really big deal, but a nice touch. Hopefully this is something that can be supported in an upcoming version!

Thanks for the help! It’s incredible how such a simple plugin can make a world of a difference to the Dashboard’s usefulness 🙂 I don’t see why the At a Glance widget isn’t set up like this automatically, as providing a site overview “seems” to be its purpose…

I’m not sure what the issue might be with the feedback icon not showing. All seems to be set fine on the plugin’s end and I can’t recreate the issue. You’re running the most recent version of the plugin? I can dig in a bit more at some point and investigate.

Icons can be selected by first selecting an item from the drop down, then clicking on the marker icon to the left. This should open up the available icon options.

At the moment, the plugin only supports dashicons. I’ve not worked with icons from a url. How are those defined when registering a post type? I might look to add support for this in a future version. Would definitely be a nice addition.

Currently, yes, the plugin is set to have persistent icons once added. It is a great idea to make them dynamic, so that they would change with changes to the post type (if a custom icon has not been set). I will look into that for a future version.

Also, one other person has mentioned drag & drop. I also think this would be great. Quite a bit more tricky to implement, so not sure when I might get around to that one.

Thanks for your use of the plugin and the great feedback. Let me know if you encounter anything else. I’ll get back to you when I have a chance to move/investigate more.

Thanks! Now that I know how to change the icons, I fixed the Feedback manually. I don’t know what the problem could be, either, but maybe it has to do with using another plugin to modify the admin menu (and its icons).

Just a suggestion — it really wasn’t clear to me that I could click the marker to choose an icon, so I wonder if you could add a drop down arrow or something to show people there are more options?

FYI: I had to choose the icon first, then the item. If I choose the item first, the marker disappears so there’s no way to choose an icon.

It appears I was using an incomplete list of dashicons. Now that I see your list, it has options that would suit my needs, so I don’t need the url option after all 🙂

However, just so you know, I’m using the WCK plugin to create the post types, and the menu icon is one of the options available.

Resetting a few Glance That items after manually changing an icon isn’t a big deal since it only takes half a second, but perhaps put a note about that in the FAQs?

I’m glad to hear that you like the drag and drop suggestion and that other people would find it useful. Whenever you get the chance is great!

Thanks again for your help! Since my main issues are resolved and drag and drop *seems* to be forthcoming, I’m marking this as resolved. I already rated the plugin 4 but will change it to 5 since it looks like all my “little issues” are disappearing one by one 🙂

Nice. Yes, it could likely be a conflict with another plugin that’s modifying the menu. That is likely also causing the disappearing icon issue when you select an item. Happy to help! Thanks again for the feedback and the review. Do let me know if you encounter additional items. I’ll keep these things in mind when I’ve time to develop it more.

    Hi again,

I figured out what’s going on. I had moved Feedback to a submenu in my admin, so it’s now a custom menu item, which is why it shows up with the default marker in the Glance That widget.

And you’re right about that being the cause of the disappearing icon issue. The icon doesn’t disappear for default menu items I haven’t modified. As long as I still have access one way or the other, then it’s okay with me 😉

So now that you’ve given me these extra tips, I’ve also figured out how to change the default item icons, not just the custom ones. That was beyond my hopes. Thanks!!! Glance That is far more flexible than I thought.

Thought of a couple more questions so I opened a new thread. I’m on a roll today — thanks for being so receptive 🙂
