    Dear FreeSoul Support Team,

I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to share my recent experience with the FreeSoul extension on our WordPress 6.4.1 installation.

Firstly, I want to express my appreciation for the FreeSoul extension. Its functionality for accelerating the backend by inhibiting unnecessary plugins, depending on the active backend menu, is truly innovative. The ease of accessing inhibited plugins via the Settings is also very handy, and the extension’s impact on optimizing the frontend is commendable. Great work on developing such a useful tool!

However, I encountered a critical error after updating FreeSoul to the latest version. Clicking on certain backend pages resulted in a critical error. Disabling the FreeSoul extension resolved the issue, and subsequent deletion and reinstallation seemed to fix the problem. Unfortunately, this process led to the loss of our custom settings.

In light of this, I believe it would be highly beneficial to introduce an export/import function for the extension’s settings. This feature would greatly assist in situations where settings need to be restored after reinstallation. For the time being, I am manually documenting our configurations in a Notion table to ensure quick recovery if needed.

Overall, my experience with FreeSoul remains positive, and I find the extension incredibly useful for our needs. I appreciate your attention to this feedback and look forward to any updates or suggestions you might have regarding the issue I encountered.

Thank you for your continuous efforts to improve the FreeSoul extension.

    Best regards,

    Hi Lilly,

Thank you very much for your kind words!

I’m sorry you had this issue and had to do a lot of work to restore the settings.
Did you have the debug active and see any error in wp-content/debug.log?

I’m sorry that I could not help you before you did all that work. Probably, the issue could have been solved without deleting the plugin.

I hope this kind of issue doesn’t happen again in the future, but If it happens, I suggest you first, try to deactivate and re-activate again the plugin without deleting it. When you delete it, it clears all the settings to don’t leave anything in the database.
If it doesn’t help, try to go back to the previous version without deleting the plugin.

You can always find here the previous versions: https://wordpress.org/plugins/freesoul-deactivate-plugins/advanced/

Scroll down up to “Please select a specific version to download.” to see the list of the previous versions.

Thank you for your suggestion about the import/export of the settings.
This is already a feature of the PRO version. You can read more here about it: https://freesoul-deactivate-plugins.com/import-export-settings/

It would be great If you had the debug active and you can share the errors, because nobody reported the same issue, and without more information it’s not easy to reproduce the same problem.

    Have a great day!

    Hi Jose,

Firstly, thank you for your prompt and thorough response. I appreciate the advice and the steps you’ve suggested for future troubleshooting.

Regarding the debug log, I regret to inform you that I did not have the debug mode activated at the time of the incident. This oversight on my part means I unfortunately don’t have any error logs to share. I realize now how crucial that information can be for diagnosing issues accurately.

I’m grateful for the instructions on how to handle similar situations in the future, particularly the tip about deactivating and reactivating the plugin before considering deletion. I’ll also keep in mind the option to revert to a previous version if necessary.

The information about the PRO version’s import/export feature is very helpful. It’s something I will consider for added convenience and to ensure settings are preserved.

Moving forward, I will ensure that debug mode is enabled to capture any potential issues. Should any problems arise, I’ll be better prepared to share detailed information to assist with troubleshooting.

Thank you again for your support and for the valuable resources you’ve provided. I look forward to a continued positive experience with your plugin.

Have a wonderful day as well!

    Best regards, Lilly
