feed:// creating 404 (2 posts)

I was looking through my logs, and feed://... (at the bottom of evory page using the default template) is creating 404 errors for search engine spiders. (they access it as http://www.mydomain/category/feed://www.mydomain.com/category...)

What kind of software is needed to view the feed:// protocal? I use the Thunderbird feedreader and those likes don't work in my browser either.

Should I just remove the feed:// or make a mod-rewrite to redirect http://www.mydomain/category/feed://www.mydomain.com/category to the regular feed location?

    Thanks for your input!

feed: is a proposed standard, but not yet widely supported. It's a contentious issue for some that WordPress is pushing this standard when there are so few feed readers capable of understanding it (insert chicken-and-egg metaphor here).

If it bugs you, just remove the feed: prefix from your templates:
    <a href="feed:<?php bloginfo('rss2_url');?>">Entries (RSS)</a>
