Support » Plugin: WPMovieLibrary » Features: Check for duplicates and check database for existing before adding new

Hello, Charlie, this is a very intelligently crafted plug-in. Thanks!

It would be very helpful to have two new features.

    1. A way to check the database for possible duplicates.

    2. An automatic look up of the title before the plug-in goes to the TMDb external source for metadata. If the plug-in finds a possible existing movie that has the same title, it would ask for approval before going to TMDb, thereby giving us a chance to figure out if there are any issues. That would also be useful when we’re shopping for movies and want to both (1) check to see if we already own a movie and (2) add it to the plug-in’s database.

    3. An alternative to #2 might be to add an option in the search feature, so that if a search returns no results, we would have a button to begin the process of adding that title to the plug-in’s database.

    What do you think?

    Best wishes, Art

    Hi azw,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! There already is a duplicate detection mechanism, but it only applies to the importer, the single movie editor is meant to override this; adding a notice wouldn’t hurt, though. Good call.

Your third point is actually what I have in mind for the next major version of the plugin as the importer and movie list will be merged in the dashboard to featured on the same page, the idea being to be able to browse through existing movies and add new ones easily, either by hitting a dedicated tab or, like you describe, by providing a direct “Import this movie” link when a search comes empty 🙂

That sounds great! I was already looking forward to version 3.0, and this adds even more to look forward to! Thanks, Charlie!
