Featured YouTube video

Hi, I use this fantastic theme, but I was wondering something: how can I use a YouTube video to replace the classic ‘Featured Image’?

I tried setting the article as a ‘video’, inserting the YouTube video link at the top – exactly in the first line – but it didn’t work. I was hoping to avoid using some external plugin.
