• Hi all! I am new to WordPress and still learning how to customize my theme. I have paid for a lot of customizations and I have reached a point that I need to learn to make some of the changes myself. I would like to align my featured slider to the left and right a description to the right of it. Similar to how another user has set up their blog: http://test.capamo.org

I read some of the commentary from that users post but I am not familiar with what Child theme is and I sure am not familiar with HTML. I know how to access my style sheet but don’t know what to do from there.

Any guidance would be much appreciated it.

    Thank you!
    Parisa

I’m not sure if I understand to question, but all you need to do is assign some of your post as sticky posts. That’s because only sticky posts are in the slider.

How to assing post as sticky post:

When you edit post there is words and link Visibility: Public Edit above Publish/Update button.

In there click Stick this post to the front page.

    This is basic WP feature.

    Hi Sami,

Thank you for your response. I know how to add an image to my slider via making it a sticky post.

I would like the images on my slider not to be centered and to be able to write a description to the right of the slider. The way it is by default. The way this looks: http://test.capamo.org. Mine currently looks like this: http://www.prettypleasedesign.com

I’m afraid you have done it yourself. First of all, never modify parent theme files. For example your own css goes goes to child theme style.css.

Here is premade child theme for you.

Yes, I had someone customize it for me and now I am not sure I like it because of all the empty space around the slider. I read what a child theme is and unfortunately all of this technical language is over my head.

    Thank you,

It just means that if you modify parent (Path) theme files, you’ll lose them all, when you update the theme. But when you make changes to child theme, you won’t.

Now it’s pretty much done in the wrong way:)

Oh darn. Thank you for letting me know. Can I get rid of it entirely then?

You need to roll your styles in child theme style.css like I said.
