 * I’m designing a theme for WordPress and I have a block designated for a featured
   post on the home page.
 * I’m trying to decide if it would be best to require a “feature” category to query
   the latest post from that would display in the block or I started to get creative
   and thought it would be neat to to able to choose a specific post from a combo
   box within the theme options, under the design menu in the WP dashboard.
 * Has anyone noticed any similar functionality in other themes I can use for reference
   or any better suggestions?
 * Thanks in advance.

 * Have you had a look at [http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-sticky/](http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-sticky/)?
 * That plugin adds a drop down selection to the write post page so you can mark
   the plugin to stay at the top of the list, and effectively featured.

 * Thanks!
    I think I’ll integrate this plugin into my theme.

 * Well, it depends on whether you want a sticky post or a featured post.
 * Feature posts will probably change more frequently than sticky posts.
 * Instead of using a “feature” category, you should use a “feature” tag because
   not all users will want to create an entirely new category just to work with
   your theme. Of course, if this theme is just for yourself, then that won’t be
   a problem.

 * Greenshady, that is a great idea. Thanks!
