Have you tried:
– deactivating ALL plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).
– switching to the unedited default, core-bundled Theme (such as Twenty Fourteen) for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue.
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems (because the hooks remain unless plugins completely removed or some plugins stick around in cached files. So by renaming the folder, you break them and force them inactive).
Thanks for those suggestions!
By the way, I’m running the Excel Pro Theme on the Genesis Framework.
Unfortunately temporarily deactivating the plugins, switching to the TwentyFourteen Theme, and resetting the plugins folder didn’t work. The featured page plugin is genesis framework specific, so it didn’t show up with the TwentyFourteen theme.
Here’s a screenshot of what I’m seeing.
I’ve even tried another featured page widget (Genesis Featured Page Extras) to no avail.
Would it be possible to directly edit the Genesis Framework specific widget’s code?
Any other ideas?

I suggest you contact the theme’s developers.
Alternately, chose a free theme from the WP theme repo.
