Support » Fixing WordPress » Featured images – display on most recent post only on homescreen

  • Tried looking elsewhere, but can’t believe no-one else wants to do this. I want my home screen to display the featured image for the most recent post, because that then appears all nice and big at the top. But I don’t want all the other posts below it to show a featured image, because this looks messy. So I really need either the home screen to not display featured pics for any posts bar the latest, or a way to automatically remove featured pics from posts once a new post is created. Sorry if this is unclear or the answer’s obvious, I’m terribly new to all this. I’m using the pinboard theme.

  • This is perfectly clear and the answer is not obvious.

    Does the Pinboard theme offer a custom CSS option? If not, you’ll want to create a child theme and add something like this to its stylesheet:

    .home .featured-image {display:none;}
    .home .feature-image:first-child {display:block;}

    You may have to play around with this quite a bit. It’s difficult to provide precise code without actually seeing your site.

    Thanks very much for the suggestion. My site is http://blog.usefullyemployed.co.uk – the pinboard theme does allow custom css, but putting that code in doesn’t work. I have messed around with it a bit, but not sure what to try next. You will see on the site the problem, I would rather the second post didn’t have its featured image. I may just have to manually remove the featured images as I post each time, which will be inconvenient but not the end of the world I guess.
