Featured Images and Themes

    Hi Guys

    A bit of advice please? I am building a shop and I would like to use the featured image to display the main product picture. And this is where I would like some advice.

    2 or 3 column site?
    Is it possible with a 2 column site to tell the theme to make the featured image the background to the content box and then only with shop products to move the content to say 350px and slightly opaque. i.e. This means the image would show through the content slightly but would have a lot more showing if the original content size was say 700px in size.
    Or
    Would you create a 3 column site and use the sidebar to display the featured image please?

    I have started to code as I want the site to look but want to know how to call the featured image and place it as a background to the page. Is it possible please?
