I have problems with featured image together with grid template. Despite image sizes such as 2560×1920, 4690×3387 and 2136×1535, they don’t cover the entire featured image area, but the image only occupies half the space.

If I crop the image in advance to 1180×434 instead of uploading the original size, the feautured image is displayed correctly on pages/posts. However, thumbnails are unflattering on pages with the grid template when featured images are cropped to 1180×434. So this is not a solution.

How do I achieve the following results? https://darademo.wordpress.com/services/ There you will see that thumbnail images have a different image format than the featured image. Surely that’s how it should work, that a sufficiently large image is automatically adjusted in the featured image area, but that doesn’t seem to be the case?

I haven’t made any changes to the theme/CSS and only have one active plugin but disabling it makes no difference.

I cannot provide a link to my website as the website is created locally on my computer.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Hey there, I’m not sure what’s causing this, actually! We’ll do some digging and let you know what we find.

Actually, I just realized I misunderstood your question: in my test I tried a bunch of images of different aspect ratios on the Grid Page, and they did not get cropped to the grid. But that’s intentional in this theme.

You’re asking why the images don’t take up the full width on the header for individual pages, correct? That’s also intentional: it shows a little diagonal line as a background if the image doesn’t fit.

The image sizes we’re using on the demo are all 3024 by 2268 pixels, just a standard 4:3 aspect ratio. If you use images with that size or ratio, do you run into any issues?

@supernovia I uploaded an image in the 4:3 aspect ratio (1842×1382) but it still doesn’t take up the entire header on individual pages.

I really want it to work for me because the theme is so nice and fitting overall (love the subpage grid template).

Just because, I also tried exactly 3024×2268 but with the same result, the image doesn’t take up the entire header on individual pages.

    Hello there,

To check, are you looking to move the Services header down the page, so that all of the image is visible? If yes, you may need CSS for this change here.

I see the site is hosted on WordPress.com – we may be able to assist or make a suggestion here: https://wordpress.com/help/contact

I hope this helps so far.

@aleone89 I’m just trying to achieve the same result as the theme’s official demo: https://darademo.wordpress.com/services/flowers/ – this is not my site.

Right now, the featured image only occupies half of the page header: https://i.imgur.com/Rkg98yf.png (screenshot of my demo site). The parent page: https://i.imgur.com/1qKjs2s.png (looks alright in terms of thumbnail).

My site is not hosted on WordPress.com but locally on my own computer i.e. offline.

    Hello there,

That looks odd, it doesn’t look like the image is the right size…

What happens if you were to use this image specifically?

@aleone89 The image size is (as it says on the image) 3024Γ—2268. Same image size as the image you link. I have, however, uploaded that image as well with the exact same result. I don’t understand it… https://imgur.com/kenXYjX

Also installed and activated Jetpack as I thought maybe that was the problem but no difference.

    Don’t know what I should do. πŸ™

Does it matter that my site is offline/localhost? It says “Currently in Offline Mode (some features are disabled)” under Jetpack settings.

Still strange if a site needs to be online for featured image to work, no other themes have this issue…

I have the same issue with posts and not just pages: https://imgur.com/ca8jgQP

Many thanks for that additional information.

If you go to Settings > Media > are you seeing a header top image size? Or a featured image size?

@aleone89 I’ve been there too but don’t see anything about header top image size. However, tried changing all values to 3024×2268 but saw no difference.

    Hi there,

Does it matter that my site is offline/localhost? It says β€œCurrently in Offline Mode (some features are disabled)” under Jetpack settings.

I can confirm that I have tested this on my test site (which did not have the Jetpack plugin at all) and for me featured images were displayed correctly. We are not able to test localhost setups but that may be the issue here. Sadly we can’t take a look at your site since it’s not online but you may wish to deactivate all plugins you have on your local site to confirm that one of them is not conflicting and re-sizing your images somehow.

Otherwise, you can take your site live, and if the issue continues there we will be able to take a closer look at it online to see if we can discover the issue.

@jerrysarcastic I understand. When you write that you tested on your test site, was it online and not offline/localhost then?

Then maybe it’s my localhost that’s causing trouble (using XAMPP). I continue to work on the theme with the idea that this will be resolved when the site goes online. After all, that’s the only problem I have with the theme that no one else here seems to be able to echo.

    Hello there,

It sounds like the fact this is on a localhost may be the common denominator.

Testing on live would confirm if this is the case.

The site I’m working on is live. The image is not filling the entire area. I have set it to the size stated above. (3024×2268) Any update on this?
