With Jetpack portfolios, featured images aren’t displayed on single portfolio projects – you’ll need to add images within the project itself.

Featured images on your portfolio projects would normally be found on the portfolio archive page here, but I’m getting a 404 not found error:

    http://mtmcclanahan.com/portfolio

Could you try re-saving your permalink structure, under Settings > Permalinks, without making any other changes?

The link would have to be http://mtmcclanahan.com/paintings/portfolio/. But they don’t show there either.

When you say “With Jetpack portfolios, featured images aren’t displayed on single portfolio projects”, do you mean specifically in Bushwick? Because they do show in other themes I have found.

Hmm, that’s odd. The automatically generated portfolio archive page is usually at the root URL /portfolio. Are you running two WordPress installs on this site?

In most Automattic-made themes that have custom portfolio templates, featured images don’t display on the single portfolio page, they must be added to the main post content.

    For example:

    Illustratr – https://illustratrdemo.wordpress.com/portfolio/writting-downtown/
    Espied – https://espieddemo.wordpress.com/portfolio/chrome-os-camera-app-icon/
    Sketch – https://sketchdemo.wordpress.com/portfolio/fleur/

Bushwick doesn’t come with a custom portfolio template, so it falls back to the single post template file for displaying single portfolio projects: content-single.php This file doesn’t display featured images.

If you’d like to display featured images in your single portfolio projects, you could create a child theme with a custom template for your portfolio projects, or add support to content-single.php in a child theme. If you’d like to pursue those avenues and need help getting started, let me know.

I use the WordPress blog platform with Yahoo. So, my site mtmcclanahan.com, which can be typed in by itself, brings up my main blog at mtmcclanahan.com/paintings (I just changed my main blog to mtmcclanahan.com/artist though, so this new one now will come up if you type in only mtmcclanahan.com). I have it set to just show the site url mtmcclanahan.com no matter the page displayed. But, you can type in the extension you want also in which case the pages will show the specific url for each page. Thus it is mtmcclanahan.com/paintings/portfolio. Hope that makes sense!

Please forgive my ignorance, but Bushwick doesn’t have a Custom Portfolio Template does it? I’m using Jetpacks Portfolio I thought.

Hmm – that setup is a bit confusing, and it may be the reason why your portfolio archive isn’t being displayed correctly at the expected URL, which is http://mtmcclanahan.com/portfolio

You may need to ask for Yahoo’s help to sort this out.

Correct, it does not come with a specific template for displaying Jetpack portfolio projects in a special way.

It displays portfolio projects using the same template file as regular blog posts.

But the featured image does show in posts. Is that what you said? http://mtmcclanahan.com/paintings/portraits/

There are several layers of confusion happening, let’s try to clear it up. 🙂

    1) This is not a post, it’s a page:

    http://mtmcclanahan.com/paintings/portraits/

You can see that if you view the page source:

    <body class="page page-id-1351 page-template-default featured-image">

    2) This page is not using the Jetpack portfolio custom post type from what I’m seeing.

I see this referenced in the source code:

    symple

It looks like you’re using a different plugin to generate those images, perhaps this one?

    http://www.wpexplorer.com/symple-shortcodes/

Let me know if this makes sense out of what you’re seeing.
