 * The featured images I have set never changes to the 2nd or 3rd image. Can this
   plugin be set to change the images by itself like a slider? I would like the 
   image to change in sidebar widget or portfolio grid linked to the featured image.

 * You need to fetch and display the image manually. The plugin will only allow 
   you the option to add multiple featured image in backend and handful of api to
   communicate with those featured images.
