Have noticed over the last few days that when adding a new post the ‘Featured Image’ gets posted to the Fediverse on it’s own and while the actual post is still in DRAFT mode.

No idea where to even start to troubleshoot and am lookin for some direction.

Only plug-in and WP updates have been carried out in the last couple months.

    hey @cruiseshipholiday 👋

have enabled the federation of Attachments?

Yes, federation of attachments is enabled.

No issue around the images federating. The issue is that while creating a post while it’s still a draft, not posted and never has been, the Featured Image gets federated. It looks like this when viewed via a Mastodon account using the Phanpy front end:

This site has been up since April this year with 118 posts. This issue was noticed in the last 3-7 days or so.

I’ve just testing simply uploading an image into the gallery. In other words not uploading an image while writing/drafting a new post.

The image and alt text were federated as a post. You can view it here:

You have to disable the „Media“ post type.

Media – The attachments that you have uploaded to a post (images, videos, documents or other files).

If enabled it federates every uploaded media file.

when deactivated, it still attaches images to posts!

Thank you for clearing that up! No idea why I never noticed before. Perhaps only because of the gap between the image only upload and the post upload. Never saw both until a few days ago.

Appreciate your time and, of course, your brilliant work on ActivityPub. 🙂

no problem and thanks a lot ☺️

I think the “Media” post type can actually be quite misleading in the context of federation. There’s definitely room for improvement in the future.
