Support » Plugin: Send Images to RSS » Featured image doesn’t get included in feed

For some reason the ../feed/ does not contain the info I am expecting.

I have configured in the Reading settings the full text radio button.
Yet I see both a <description> and a <content:encoded> section in ../feed/. It causes that the reading app is showing both right after the other, what doesn’t look professional.
Until so far, no RSS related plugins are active.

For including the featured image in the feed I have activated the Send Images to RSS plugin, but no featured image gets included.`

So I need full post details only, and the featured image, but I get both post details and excerpt, and no featured image…
    What am I doing wrong??

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

When your RSS feed settings are set to show the full text, the summary is still included. Feed readers will generally show the full text, if it’s available, and use the excerpt/summary as the fallback, and only use it if there is no full text. That is what I am seeing in Feedly for your feed.

An email service (like Mailchimp or whatever you use) may have a template tag for either the text or the summary, and you would need to decide which to use, if your RSS feed is set to full text.

The featured image will only be included for posts which have a featured image assigned. It looks like the first post in your feed includes an image in the content, but does not have a featured image set, which is why the image is not added to the beginning of the article in the feed.

    I hope that helps clarify.

    Hi Robin,

Thanks for your explanation of the summary to be included when full text is selected. The feed reader is an app, and the tech guy over there explained me that there is no template tag or anything like that to select. Just don’t have to deliver the summary, was his recommendation…
Guess I have to live with that statement on that end, for now.

Re the featured image: I know that the first post doesn’t have a featured imgae. But all other 9 have, and they are not appearing in the feed.
    Any thoughts?

One possibility is that your featured images already exist in your post content. I believe this is the case with at least one of the posts I reviewed. In that case, the plugin will not add the image to the beginning of the post to avoid having a duplicate image (one at the beginning of the post and then another in the content).

You could try using this filter to ignore/override that behavior:

    add_filter( 'send_images_rss_image_in_content', '__return_false' );

You may end up with duplicated images then, but it’s worth a try. The filter should be added to your theme’s functions.php file or wherever you can safely store custom code. Please make sure you have a backup before adding custom code to your site.

Hi, the filter didn’t have an effect.
As you said, most posts had images in them, including the featured image again.
But for posts without images in the contents but with a featured image still there is noting in the feed.

I tried another plugin, and it’s in now.

Thanks for your support anyway. Much appreciated.
